“So many dogs. So little time.”

Cruella de Vil (Glenn Close), a high-fashion designer with a taste for fur, sets out to steal Dalmatian puppies for an extravagant new coat. Stephen Herek stages her scheme as a comedy of mess, with Roger (Jeff Daniels), Anita (Joely Richardson) and their dogs caught in the middle. Under the slapstick, the idea is a plain one: a family looks after its own, and the animals never say a word about it.
