(1971)Directed by Leonid Gaidai161 minComedy, Adventure, Crime

In Soviet Russia, the former aristocrat Ippolit Vorobyaninov (Sergei Filippov) lives a miserable, shrunken life until his dying mother-in-law tells him she hid the family diamonds in one of twelve chairs. He teams up with the young con artist Ostap Bender (Archil Gomiashvili), and the two set out across the country after the whole set. Leonid Gaidai plays it as a brisk, loose-limbed adventure, with the pair chasing one chair after another.
