“Every second counts.”
Aron Ralston (James Franco) heads alone into a Utah slot canyon in April 2003, and a fallen boulder pins his arm against the rock wall. Danny Boyle keeps the camera inside that narrow space with him, in the glare of whatever daylight reaches the canyon floor. He is cut off from everyone he knows, and the film turns on what a person keeps hold of when nobody is left to hear him.
