13 Assassins
“Take up your sword.”
In 1844, near the end of the Edo period, Lord Naritsugu Matsudaira (Goro Inagaki) is about to take a seat on the Shogunate Council, and everyone who knows him knows what he does for pleasure. Shinzaemon Shimada (Koji Yakusho), a veteran samurai with no master, is quietly asked to stop him. Takashi Miike builds the film around a plain idea: when a country will not remove a cruel man, a few people with nothing left to lose decide to.
