Bob Sharkey (James Cagney) trains recruits for the Office of Strategic Services, and he notices that one student, Bill O'Connell (Richard Conte), is far too good at the work. His boss, Charles Gibson (Walter Abel), confirms the suspicion: O'Connell is a German agent, and Sharkey is to pass him anyway. Henry Hathaway sets this inside the final months before D-Day, with the invasion's secrets resting on the false information they mean to feed him.
