John Adams (William Daniels) wants Congress to declare independence from Britain, and he is the most disliked man in the room for saying so. It is the summer of 1776 in Philadelphia, and he and Dr. Benjamin Franklin (Howard Da Silva) hand Thomas Jefferson (Ken Howard) the job of writing the statement. Peter H. Hunt films the delegates sweating through their wool coats, arguing and singing in the hall.
