(2016)Directed by Salvador Calvo130 min · PG-13War, Drama, History
“There are men who want medals and men who want to come back.”

In 1898, fifty Spanish soldiers arrive in the Philippine village of Baler to rebuild an outpost, though the war and the empire behind it are almost lost. Salvador Calvo follows Lt. Martín Cerezo (Luis Tosar) and Sgt. Jimeno (Javier Gutiérrez) as the garrison shuts itself inside the church for a siege that lasts eleven months. The film is about men holding a position long after anyone at home has a use for it.
