Karl Koch (August Diehl), a young orphan in late-1980s Hannover, spends his inheritance on a flat and a home computer, then logs onto bulletin boards to trade conspiracy theories from his favorite novel, Illuminatus. With his friend David (Fabian Busch), he starts breaking into government and military computers. Hans-Christian Schmid follows a game that keeps growing, and every new door Karl opens costs him more than he can see.
