The Dakota land rush is on, and the prairie is full of wagons headed for free territory. Dan O'Malley (George O'Brien) and Lee Carlton (Olive Borden) are among those crossing it when her father is killed, leaving her with no one, and three outlaws step in to protect her. John Ford films the long wagon trains in open daylight, and the three men ride small and dark against the pale grass.
