35 Shots of Rum

“We all live such withdrawn lives... Everyone in his corner.”

Lionel (Alex Descas), a widowed train driver in Paris, wants one thing, which is to keep his life with his grown daughter Joséphine (Mati Diop) just as it is. Around them, neighbors and colleagues move toward retirement and the closing of the department where she studies. Claire Denis fills the film with a young man, Noé (Grégoire Colin), who lives nearby, and with a hallway, a kitchen, and a rice cooker on the counter.
