Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett), a San Francisco web designer still sore from a relationship that ended badly, gives up sex for the 40 days of Lent. He holds to it easily until Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) walks into his life. Michael Lehmann follows him through the weeks that follow, Matt alone in a bed that has stopped being a place for anything but sleeping.
