Eleanor Riese (Helena Bonham Carter) lives with a mental illness and has spent years being medicated in hospitals without anyone asking her. Colette Hughes (Hilary Swank), a lawyer, is appointed to her case, and together they bring a class action to give patients who are competent the right to decide what drugs go into them. Bille August stays close on the two women across a table, Eleanor's hands restless, Colette's pen waiting on a legal pad.
