Wing Commander Roy Grant (Cliff Robertson) leads 633 Squadron, an RAF fighter-bomber unit handed a target no one has reached. Lieutenant Erik Bergman (George Chakiris) of the Norwegian resistance has found a German V-2 fuel plant tucked beneath an overhanging cliff at the end of a long, narrow fjord lined with anti-aircraft guns. Walter Grauman sets the whole mission on one gamble: the plant can only be destroyed by bringing the cliff down on top of it.
