71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance

Vienna, from October to December 1993: a young boy, Marian Radu (Gabriel Cosmin Urdes), a retired man named Tomek (Otto Grünmandl), and a married couple, Inge (Anne Bennent) and Paul Brunner (Udo Samel), go about their separate days. Michael Haneke cuts between them in seventy-one short scenes that never explain how they belong together. All of them are heading toward the same bank on Christmas Eve, and the film lets that date hang over every ordinary hour.
