“A picture that goes beyond what men think about - because no man ever thought about it in quite this way!”

Guido Anselmi (Marcello Mastroianni) is a famous film director with a huge production waiting on him and not one idea for it. His doctors send him to a luxurious resort to rest, and the producer, the actors, his wife Luisa (Anouk Aimée) and his mistress Carla (Sandra Milo) all follow. Fellini lets Guido's childhood and his old loves drift into the days, and the film keeps asking how a man can make a film while everyone around him wants him to be someone else.
