“Every moment is another chance.”

Jimmy Smith Jr. (Eminem) freezes at the microphone during a rap battle in a Detroit club, then goes home to the trailer where he lives with his mother Stephanie (Kim Basinger). His friends, including Future (Mekhi Phifer) and Cheddar Bob (Evan Jones), keep telling him he's good enough for the stage. Curtis Hanson follows Jimmy through the factory shifts and the cold-weather rides, a young man with plenty to say and no idea yet whether he can say it.
