“When our world ended, their mission began.”

9 (Elijah Wood) wakes in a ruined world with no humans left and a number stitched on his back, a small rag doll with no memory of how he got there. He finds a handful of others like him, including the elder 1 (Christopher Plummer), hiding from machines that roam the wreckage hunting them. Shane Acker's film turns on a plain disagreement: the others believe survival means staying out of sight, and 9 believes it means going out to face what hunts them.
