“Greed is the only game in town.”

Dennis Nash (Andrew Garfield), a construction worker and single father in Florida, will do nearly anything to get his family's house back after it is taken from him. The man who evicted him, Rick Carver (Michael Shannon), a real estate broker, offers him work, and Dennis takes it. Ramin Bahrani sets the story in the Great Recession, with Dennis's mother (Laura Dern) and his son in a motel room, the family's belongings still in garbage bags.
