“Every father wants more for his son.”

In East L.A., Carlos Riquelme (Demián Bichir) is an undocumented gardener who crosses the city each day to tend the lawns of wealthy landowners. At home is his teenage son Luis (José Julián), whom he is trying to keep clear of the neighborhood's gangs and of immigration agents. Chris Weitz films the work and the long drives plainly, with no hurry to push the story along.
