A Canterbury Tale

(1944)Directed by Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger125 minMystery, War, Drama

Alison Smith (Sheila Sim) steps off a wartime train into a dark Kent village and is doused with glue by an unseen attacker, the latest in a string of strange attacks on local women. She sets out to find him with two soldiers on their way to Canterbury, Peter Gibbs (Dennis Price) and Bob Johnson (John Sweet). Powell and Pressburger shot it in black and white, the village and its people as pale and solid as the stone of the cathedral they are heading toward.
