A Child Is Waiting

(1963)Directed by John Cassavetes102 min · PGDrama
“Burt Lancaster & Judy Garland take an untouched theme - and make it touching and unforgettable!”

Jean Hansen (Judy Garland), a former music teacher who wants her life to mean more, takes a job at a state institution for intellectually disabled children. She distrusts the stern training methods of its director, Dr. Matthew Clark (Burt Lancaster), and grows close to Reuben, a twelve-year-old whose parents have left him there. John Cassavetes films the classrooms and hallways with a handheld, documentary looseness.
