On Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge (Reginald Owen) is woken in the dark by spirits who walk him back through his own life. They show him the chances he wasted in his youth and the cruelty he deals out now, to clerk Bob Cratchit (Gene Lockhart) and to his nephew Fred (Barry MacKay). Edwin L. Marin builds the night around one choice, because Scrooge can keep his bitterness and die with it, or change before the morning comes.
