“Once upon a time... can happen any time.”

Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) spends her days waiting tables at her late father's diner, taking orders from her stepmother Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge), while an anonymous online friend is the one person she tells everything. Mark Rosman sends her to the school's Halloween dance, where she means to finally meet him. It's an old fairy tale about being seen for who you are, set in a California high school.
