A Day in the Country

(1946)Directed by Jean Renoir41 minDrama, Romance, Comedy

One summer afternoon in 1860, a Parisian shop-owner takes his family out to the country, to the banks of the Seine. Jean Renoir, adapting a Maupassant story, follows Henriette (Sylvia Bataille) and her mother, Madame Dufour (Jane Marken), to an inn, where two local men, Henri (Georges D'Arnoux) and Rodolphe (Jacques Brunius), take notice. A single day is long enough for a love affair, and then it ends.
