A Day Without a Mexican

“There goes the neighborhood.”

One morning in California, a thick fog settles along the state's borders and cuts off every phone and road out. When it clears, every Mexican in the state is gone, and the fields and kitchens they worked sit empty. Sergio Arau, in his first film as director, runs the story as a satire, following Ellen Abercombie (Melinda Allen) and others through the day the state stops working.
