A Dog's Will
“Lying with faith is not always a sin.”
João Grilo (Matheus Nachtergaele) and Chicó (Selton Mello) trick their way through a small town in Brazil's Northeastern hinterland, where everyone has more money than they do. Guel Arraes adapts Ariano Suassuna's play with a stage-like looseness, and when the pair die, they stand before Christ, the Devil and the Virgin Mary. Two poor, quick-witted men argue for their lives against the powerful, and the film treats that argument as a matter of simple justice.
