A Dry White Season

A young Black boy dies in police custody during the 1976 Soweto uprising, and nobody in authority will say how. Ben du Toit (Donald Sutherland), a white schoolteacher in Johannesburg, starts asking, and the people around him, his wife Susan (Janet Suzman) among them, begin to treat him as a danger to the household. Euzhan Palcy, directing from André Brink's novel, keeps the camera on the ordinary rooms and streets where Ben's old life starts to close in.
