A Face in the Crowd

(1957)Directed by Elia Kazan125 minDrama
“POWER! He loved it! He took it raw in big gulpfuls … he liked the taste, the way it mixed with the bourbon and the sin in his blood!”

Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes (Andy Griffith) is a drifting guitar picker from the Ozarks, found sleeping it off in an Arkansas jail by Marcia Jeffries (Patricia Neal), a radio producer who thinks his rough voice deserves a microphone. From a local broadcast he climbs to television stardom and the attention of men who make politicians. Elia Kazan films the hot, loud rise in close, crowded frames, with Griffith's grin always at the center of the shot.
