A Farewell to Arms

Lt. Frederick Henry (Rock Hudson) is an American serving with the ambulance corps on the Italian front in World War I, and he meets the English nurse Catherine Barkley (Jennifer Jones) at a field hospital behind the lines. Charles Vidor adapts Hemingway's novel as a love story set against the long grind of the war around them. Two people try to build a life together while the fighting keeps taking the ground, and the people, out from under them.
