Two Marines are charged with murdering a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay, and the Navy hands their defense to Lt. Daniel Kaffee (Tom Cruise), a lawyer known for settling cases fast. Lt. Cdr. JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) is assigned beside him and refuses to treat it as a plea deal. Rob Reiner sets the two at odds over the file, Kaffee wanting it closed and Galloway wanting it opened.
