A Gentle Woman
In Paris in 1969, a pawnbroker sits beside the body of his young wife, who has killed herself and left no explanation. Luc (Guy Frangin) goes back through their marriage from the first day, trying to find the point where it started to go wrong. Bresson, adapting a Dostoevsky story, shoots in colour for the first time and keeps Elle (Dominique Sanda) at the edge of the frame.
