John (John Lennon), Paul (Paul McCartney), George (George Harrison) and Ringo (Ringo Starr) bolt through crowds of screaming fans and a hounding press, trying to reach a television studio in time for a live broadcast. Richard Lester follows them across thirty-six fictionalized hours in 1964, with Paul's troublemaking grandfather (Wilfrid Brambell) stirring up trouble and Ringo in police custody. If the band doesn't make it, the show goes on without them.
