A Love Song for Bobby Long

“The heart is a lonely hunter.”

Pursy Will (Scarlett Johansson) comes back to New Orleans wanting to settle her estranged mother's affairs and be done with the place. She finds the house already occupied by Bobby Long (John Travolta), an aging alcoholic, and his younger friend Lawson Pines (Gabriel Macht). Shainee Gabel, adapting a novel by Ronald Everett Capps, sets three people with nothing in common under one roof, and the quiet between Pursy and Bobby is where the film begins to matter.
