A Month in the Country

(1987)Directed by Pat O'Connor96 minHistory, Drama
“They hoped to heal the scars of war away in a small English village. But the war within was just beginning…”

Tom Birkin (Colin Firth), a war veteran with little money and a nervous twitch, takes a summer job in a Yorkshire village, uncovering a medieval mural hidden beneath the whitewash of the church wall. Pat O'Connor sets him on his scaffold beside James Moon (Kenneth Branagh), an archaeologist digging in a nearby field. The two men are not at ease with what the war left them, and the work gives each a reason to get through the days.
