A Most Violent Year

New York, winter of 1981, and someone keeps hijacking the heating-oil trucks of Abel Morales (Oscar Isaac), an immigrant who has built his fuel business honestly and wants to expand it. The district attorney, Lawrence (David Oyelowo), is circling his books, and his wife Anna (Jessica Chastain) has her own ideas about how to protect the family. J.C. Chandor frames the city in cold, clean lines, and the dread comes from how much room the buildings leave around Abel.
