A Place in the Sun

(1951)Directed by George Stevens122 minDrama, Romance, Crime
“Young people asking so much of life... taking so much of love!”

George Eastman (Montgomery Clift) takes a job on the assembly line at his rich uncle's factory, hoping to climb out of his poor beginnings. Then two women arrive in his life: Alice Tripp (Shelley Winters), a co-worker he sees in secret, and Angela Vickers (Elizabeth Taylor), the glamorous heiress he can't stop looking at. George Stevens holds on Clift and Taylor in tight, slow close-ups, her face bright against the dark, his turned toward her.
