A Promise

Lotte Hoffmeister (Rebecca Hall) is the young wife of Karl (Alan Rickman), the aging owner of a steelworks in Germany just before the First World War. Friedrich Zeitz (Richard Madden), the gifted young man Karl has hired as his private secretary, joins the household, and Lotte begins to notice him. Patrice Leconte ends up on the two of them in the Hoffmeister house, the pair standing a room apart with the husband close by.
