A Room in Town
In Nantes in 1955, a steelworkers' strike turns violent in the streets, and François Guilbaud (Richard Berry), a striker, takes a room in a middle-class widow's house. He falls for Édith (Dominique Sanda), the daughter of the household, whose mother has other plans for her. Jacques Demy has every line sung, as he did in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, but here the music runs darker and the politics closer.
