A Royal Affair

“Their love affair would divide a nation.”

The king's mind is failing, and the court around Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) of Denmark-Norway has learned to work in the gaps. Nikolaj Arcel follows his young English wife, Caroline Mathilde (Alicia Vikander), as she turns to the royal physician, Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen), and their love draws them into a fight over the country itself. Vikander sits in the palace, the king beside her and the doctor across the room.
