A Separation

“Ugly truth, sweet lies.”

In present-day Iran, Simin (Leila Hatami) has a visa to leave the country with her husband and daughter, and Nader (Payman Maadi) will not go because his father has Alzheimer's disease. Asghar Farhadi follows the family into divorce court, then into the larger quarrel that starts when Nader hires Razieh (Sareh Bayat) to look after the old man. Each person keeps a loyalty that is honest and also in the way of someone else's.
