A Tale of Love and Darkness

Fania Oz (Natalie Portman) wants more for her son Amos than the cramped Jerusalem of the last years of Mandatory Palestine can give him, so she fills his days with stories. His father, Arieh (Gilad Kahana), is an academic who trusts books and facts. Natalie Portman's first film as director lets a child learn that the stories a family tells are how its grief and its hopes get handed down.
