Lucie Manette (Elizabeth Allan) draws the attention of Sydney Carton (Ronald Colman), and Jack Conway sets their story against the years leading up to the French Revolution and the Terror. Dickens's novel is about how much one life can be asked to carry for another, and the film keeps that question close.
