A Taxing Woman

In 1980s Japan, the National Tax Agency sends Ryoko Itakura (Nobuko Miyamoto) after Hideki Gondo (Tsutomu Yamazaki), who runs a chain of seedy hourly hotels and has hidden his real wealth for years. Jūzō Itami follows the two through audits, bank records and plain dogged legwork, each trying to outwit the other. Itakura wants every yen he has buried, and Gondo means to keep it.
