“... IT'S A LIFT FOR THE SPIRITS”

In a New York apartment, twelve-year-old Nick (Barry Gordon) lives with his uncle Murray (Jason Robards), a comedy writer who has quit his job and keeps hoping a new life will turn up. What turns up is a social worker, Sandra (Barbara Harris), and a child welfare office that wants Murray to live like everyone else. Fred Coe's film asks plainly how much of yourself you can trade away to keep the people you love.
