Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey) is a young lawyer in a small Mississippi town, handed the case of Carl Lee Hailey (Samuel L. Jackson). Carl Lee has shot the two white men who raped his 10-year-old daughter, and the Klan returns to town in answer. Joel Schumacher keeps Jake in the thick of it as the trial draws closer, and Jake still has no clear idea how to defend him.
