A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
“Each heart-warming character comes alive on the screen!”
Brooklyn, around 1900, and the Nolans are getting by on pennies in a tenement where one tree is all anyone can see from the window. Elia Kazan, in his first film as a dramatic director, fills their days with Aunt Sissy (Joan Blondell) and her string of husbands, and with Johnny Nolan (James Dunn), a charming father who drinks. Young Francie wants a better school, and that depends on a man who can't be counted on.
