“The true story of a love that shook an empire”

Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) is heir to the throne of Bechuanaland, the future Botswana, when he meets Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), an office worker in London, and marries her in 1948. Amma Asante follows the couple as both families, the British government and South Africa's apartheid state line up against the match. Everything they have is on the table: his crown, her home, and the right to live as husband and wife.
