A Very Long Engagement

“Never let go.”

Mathilde (Audrey Tautou) is told that her fiancé Manech (Gaspard Ulliel) has died in the trenches of the First World War, and she decides she does not believe it. Jean-Pierre Jeunet follows her as she writes letters, questions strangers and pieces together what happened to him, one witness at a time. The film keeps coming back to a single stubborn idea: love can outlast every official record that says it is over.
