A Walk in the Sun
“THEY FOUGHT BEST WHEN IT WAS HOPELESS!”
The landing barge empties onto the beach at Salerno in 1943, and a platoon of the 36th Infantry Division starts inland. Their orders are to march six miles, blow a bridge, and clear a farmhouse, with Sgt. Bill Tyne (Dana Andrews) and Pvt. Rivera (Richard Conte) among the men walking it. Lewis Milestone keeps the whole film on that one road, and if the platoon fails, the counterattack reaches the bridgehead.
