A Woman Is a Woman

(1961)Directed by Jean-Luc Godard83 minComedy, Drama, Romance
“Is this a tragedy or a comedy? Either way, it's a masterpiece.”

It is 1961, and Angela (Anna Karina) strips at a Paris club, lives with her boyfriend Émile Récamier (Jean-Claude Brialy), and has decided she wants a baby. When Émile won't agree, she turns to his friend Alfred Lubitsch (Jean-Paul Belmondo), hoping to make him jealous. Godard's first film in color and widescreen plays like a musical, but what holds it together is Angela and Émile, who keep trading their arguments for kisses.
